» i grew up in the appalachian hills
[a district 12/the hunger games mix]
a selection of tracks that describe life in appalachia, especially those of coal miners and their families (district 12’s Seam population), mostly from katniss or gale’s viewpoints. you won’t find pop music here. it’s mostly bluegrass and folk, in the spirit of the region. for the most part, i wanted to stick with an authentic feel to the selections, to provide you with a sense of the uniqueness, stuggle and rich history of this area of america and how that translates to partially explain the type of people Seam kids are.
- driftwood fire: i grew up in the appalachian hills
the silver war tore this place apart, soldiers rode past those hills ‘round ours
they ripped it up, tore it down, burned this place down to the ground
and i ran through the fields made of sun;
this land has got some shallow graves with deep divides and subtle shades.
the things happened there that would make your blood run cold,
men in white with crosses of gold; burn that house like a bowl of fire- steve earle: the mountain
- …and you will know us by the trail of dead: fields of coal
- kathy mattea: black lung
- alela diane: the ocean
- willie nelson: dark as a dungeon
- eastmountainsouth: hard times
- johnny cash: the l & n don’t stop here anymore
- o.a.r.: coalminer
- fleet foxes: tiger mountain peasant song
- hammock: the world we knew as children
- dessa: mineshaft 2
- stephen davis: blood by the ton
- robert plant & alison krauss: your long journey
